•CONTACT METHOD: pyrocornflakes on AIM or rosloops at plurk.
•THREAD-JACKING: It's fine; just take it to another post if it starts to get too long and isn't public.
•FOURTH WALLING / CANON PUNCTURE: Fourth wall the GI Joe cartoon and comics ALL YOU'D LIKE. REALLY. HAVE A FIELD DAY. But I'd rather not have GI Joe: Rise of Cobra, itself, fourth walled unless your character is 1) a huge nerd and 2) contemporary enough to have seen it.
•BACKTAGGING: ALWAYS. I live on backtags.
•AVOIDED TOPICS: Not really. I'll let you know if I'm getting uncomfortable, but my personal triggers are so random that they rarely come up in RP.
IC CHARACTERISTICS:
•PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Rex is a slight, skinny man of average height, standing at slightly over 5'9", with fair skin, dark brown hair and brown eyes. He has a bit of a baby face, which can make him look younger and, deceptively, more innocent/harmless than he actually is; however, it's offset by a certain meanness and coldness in his expression when he's not deliberately presenting himself as a nice person.
There's something sickly about him, as he spent the last four years in canon largely deprived of sunlight, with his physical activity limited by his disabilities. Spending two years on the Barge, where there is no natural sunlight save for ports, hasn't done anything to improve his pallor, so, to use a cliché, he's kind of like a plant that hasn't had a chance to thrive.
Rex takes pride in his appearance, as evidenced by the fact that he keeps himself well-dressed in canon, despite looking like a "monster". As such, he dislikes/feels threatened by Arthur's appearance, since he's basically "REX BUT BETTER," and he makes an effort to distinguish his appearance from Arthur's. This means that he either keeps his hair shorter or just doesn't slick it back, and he tends to alternate between all-black outfits (regular coat or lab coat, button-up shirt, tie, trousers, boots, gloves) or, when he's feeling ~casual~, button-up shirts + nice jeans combos. Unless he gets really involved in a science project, falls into a state of morose sulking, or works himself to exhaustion, in which case he'll run around in hoodies and t-shirts and other things that makes him look more like a college student than a mad scientist. If he really wants to fool people into thinking he's just an average/harmless fellow, he'll stick with the "college student" clothing to make himself look younger.
Note quite an appearance thing, but related: although he has had his scars and respiratory system tended to, his voice is still raspier, rougher than it was before his accident. So, although he may share a face with, say, Arthur, his voice is a little different. Like so (I'm sorry).
•DEMEANOR: Rex's demeanor is highly variable, and largely dependent on what image he's trying to project. Typically, he carries himself as if he has a purpose, something to be getting to. He'll either ignore people in the halls, or he'll give them basic courtesy, a thin smile and a greeting, that sort of thing. He's aloof, but generally not unfriendly unless he's in a mood. But these days, he's going to work on hiding his moods better, so you won't find him too openly angry/unfriendly on a normal day.
•ABILITIES: Rex is a scientific genius specializing in engineering (particularly neuroengineering) and programming. He's also an experienced developer of weapons and armaments. His specialty is nanotechnology, which is highly versatile and, in his hands, dangerous. Rex is also a hobby herpetologist, so he is knowledgeable about snakes and other reptiles.
•MEDICAL INFORMATION: Although he's been largely repaired, Rex's lungs and respiratory system are still a little damaged/sensitive/weak/whatever. Also, he's allergic to cats.
•OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS: Vampires. He hates them. A lot. It's best not to talk about them with him because he'll probably just go off on a crazy supervillain rant (or he'll at least think it in his head, since he's trying oh so hard to come across as sane these days). Also, the subjects of rape, assault, abuse, stalking, kidnapping, etc. will make him very uncomfortable and could potentially trigger him, due to past events on the Barge. But he's more likely to dismiss, deflect and otherwise avoid those subjects entirely if they come up, unless you're somebody he's close to, which is nobody. Also, victim blaming (of him; he typically doesn't care about other people ahahaha... ha) will piss him off.
IC PERMISSIONS:
•MENTAL: Yes, but note that if he finds out, he'll probably try to inflict hideous misery on your character.
•MIMICRY: Case by case basis; ask me first.
•VIOLENCE: Yes, but I draw the line at severe injuries/mutilation and death.
•MAGIC: Sure!
•DEBATE: If they want to deal with occasionally incoherent ranting, go ahead.
•OTHER / NOTES: VAMPIRES, DO NOT BITE HIM. I'm really trying to avoid violence/victimization by vampires and other predatory characters. There's just way too much baggage with this character and them.
